This afternoon we had a workshop whose title was: How to stay in the target language. In this meeting, teachers from Brazil, American teachers and coordinators of PDPI Program, discussed about ways to keep 90% of our classes in English. It was an interesting discussion because we know how is difficult for the Brazilian teachers and for the students to be fluent in a second language, because, outside the schools, we are in an environment where people speak only Portuguese. Differently of the Brazilian public schools, American public schools enroll students from different countries and languages, but they study and live in places where the main spoken language is English.
The conclusion we get from that workshop was: Brazilian teachers need to try teaching all their classes in English and the students need to know how important learning a second language is.
